What is the difference between god man and guardian (förvaltare)?
A god man supports a person who needs help but is still legally capable – the person decides themselves, but has assistance. A guardian is used when the person lacks the ability to manage their affairs and loses their legal capacity within the guardian's mandate area. The district court decides on guardianship and it requires a medical certificate proving impaired decision-making capacity.
How long does the processing take?
The overförmyndare's processing typically takes 1–6 months depending on the municipality and case complexity. We submit your application within 5 business days and help keep the case active if supplements are requested.
